Cosmetic Veneers

Dental veneers in our Pleasanton CA office.

It is universally known that a warm, beautiful smile immediately gives you confidence, and improves your appearance. You only get one chance to make a first impression and your smile is one of the first things people notice. However, over time, our teeth may become prone to staining, prone to wear and prone to shifting. This could result in a negative impact on our smile. This is where dental cosmetic veneers come in to improve your smile with whiter teeth and eliminating teeth staining.

The veneers are extra thin porcelain or ceramic tooth shells that is custom-made to fit over the front surface of your teeth much like a finely tailored dress or suit. The veneer is able to restore the tooth to a more youthful color, shape, and size and can drastically improve the appearance of teeth that are stained, chipped, misaligned, or close gaps between teeth. The end result is an improve smile. Veneers are a popular option for people who want to improve the appearance of their smile, as they can be used to fix a variety of cosmetic problems such as worn out teeth, discoloration of teeth, and gaps between teeth.

The Veneer Process

The process of getting veneers typically involves several steps.

1st Visit – Smile Assessment

Our dentists will conduct a smile assessment. In the smile assessment, our Lumi care team may take X-rays or other images of your mouth to evaluate the health of your teeth, gums, and smile. Impressions of your teeth may be collected for the study model. Our dentist will then discuss your goals for your smile and review a few smile proposals.

Some of the topics that will be discussed in a smile proposal will be how many teeth will be involved, the veneer materials that are ideal for your smile, potential gum re-contouring and how long the process will take. It is typically recommended that veneers are done in pairs to maintain the symmetry, color, and shape of a smile.

2nd Visit – Veneer Preparation

Once you and the dentist have decided on the right treatment plan, the next step is to prepare your teeth for the veneers. A small, conservative amount of tooth structure is required to be removed in order to make room for the veneers. Our dentists will also take a digital impression of your teeth using an intra-oral scanner. Our dental lab partners will use that model to create the custom-fitted veneers. While the veneers are being processed, the dentist will place temporary veneers on your teeth. These temporary veneers are made from a less durable material, and they are intended to protect your teeth and improve their appearance until the permanent veneers are ready.

3rd Visit – Veneer Delivery

Once the permanent veneers are ready, our dentist will remove the temporary veneers and place the permanent ones on your teeth. Our dentist will use a special bonding material to allow the veneers to attach to your teeth. They will make any final adjustments to ensure that the veneers fit correctly and look natural.

After the veneers are in place, the dentist will give you some instructions on how to care for your teeth and your veneers. It is important to brush and floss your teeth regularly, and to visit the dentist for regular checkups and cleanings. With proper care, your veneers can last for many years.
